LEVIN NOTES
About 200 guests met at Mauakau Hall to celebrate Mr. L. Bevan’s attaining his majority. Mrs. Bevan and Mrs. H. Rowlands were hostesses. During supper Major Tatum proposed the health of Mr. Bevan, and spoke of his popularity on and off the sports grounds. Mr. L. Bevan suitably responded, and thanked the donors for the’ir gifts. Mr. Maurice Mclntyre, late of Levin, and more recently on the Otakl Dairy Co.’s clerical staff, has accepted the secretaryship of the Norsewood Dairy Co., and will take up his duties early this month. Mr. 11. .1. Jones has been promoted to be first assistant master at the local District High School. He has been on the staff for 13 years, in the primary department.
The funeral took place on Tuesday of Mr. Frederick James Thorne, at the age of 32. He leaves a widow and three children. After many years of broken health this gallant soldier of Gallipoli fame did his best to carry on a business at Levin, but bad ultimately to enter the Red Cross Hospital in Wellington, and then Palmerston North Hospital. Where he passed away.
