Black), before an attendance of about 400. Following Mr. Black’s remarks messages from the Postmaster-General (Hon. J. B. Donald) and the Minister of Railways (Hon. W. B. Taverner) were received over the landline, and relayed by 4YA. The exhibition, held under the auspices of the Otago Amateur Radio Association, comprises a comprehensive display of the latest developments and many novel features. The Broadcasting Company has temporarily installed a studio on the stage, and will broadcast from the exhibition during its progress, HOW MINISTER’S SPEECH WAS TRANSMITTED RECEPTION EXCELLENT The Postmaster-General (Hon. J. B, Donald) opened the Dunedin Radio Exhibition from his office in Parliament Buildings. Officers of the Post and Telegraph Department had arranged for telephonic communication from Wellington to Dunedin, and the Minister’s voice was heard through a number of amplifiers at the exhibition. In the Minister’s office a loudspeaker was installed, and he was able to hear the preliminary speeches of the president of the Otago Radio Society (Mr. Cooper) and the Mayor of Dunedin (Mr. Black). The Hon. Mr. Taverner then spoke into the Postmaster-General’s telephone, and introduced his colleague. Mr. Donald’s speech was on similar lines to that given bv him at the recent Wellington Radio Exhibition. Long-distance telephony was used a great deal during the last general election in Great Britain, but this, is believed to be the first occasion on which it has been made use of in New Zealand to address a public meeting. Reports from Dunedin received immediately afterwards stated that both speeches from Wellington wers excellently reproduced.
