TEST CRICKET

ENGLAND WINS RUBBER INNINGS VICTORY IN THIRD MATCH SOUTH AFRICA’S CHANCE SPOILT BY WET WICKET (United Press Association.—By Electric . Telegraph.—Copyright.) Australian Press Assn.—United Service. London, July 30. England won the fourth Test match at Leeds by an innings and 32 runs. England made 427 for seven wickets and declared, when heavy rain fell, affecting the wicket. South Africa replied with 130, and, following on, made 265. England's victory in the rubber came after a stubborn defence, notably by Taylor and Cameron. The pitch was lifeless. Freeman was the only consistently troublesome bowler, suggesting once more the poverty of the English attack. Quinn batted a hundred minutes, a fine feat for a man generally going in tenth, and helped to add 53 runs. Taylor, in the fifties, was missed by Geary, and went out to the worst ball he received, hitting a full toss to Leyland. His score included seven 4’s. Morkel started uncomfortably. OwenSmith, just before going in, received a cable announcing his father’s death. He was sympathetically cheered when he appeared. Cameron hit freely. Deane, usually impetuous, backed him up steadily. Rain caused an hour’s stoppage, after which a wet bail assisted the batsmen. Cameron skied an easy catch. He batted '125 minutes and hit one 6 and ten 4’s. Following are the scores:— ENGLAND.
