CRICKET BONUSES

As a result of the bonuses earned by the cricketers taking part in the first Test match at Brisbane, under the bonus offer rndde by the proprietors of Wolfe’s Schnapps, several players on both sides have already netted a considerable sum. No players on the Australian side hit any sixers, and thereby collected the £5 offered for each sixer, but Hendren, of the English team, bit two sixers, and Larwood one. In addition to the £lO which Hendren collected from this source, he also reached the boundary on twenty-one occasions, which at 2s. per fourer, netted him an additional £2 2s. Chapman and Larwood both held four catches, each worth £l, and Ponsford, of the Australian team, also collected four catches. The total awards earned by the Englishmen so far amount to £35, whilst the Australian team has earned only £l4, all told. It will be interesting to see how the ratio of bonuses compares between the teams after the second Test match in-Sydney this week. The bonus scheme will remain in operation throughout the whole of the five Tests, and both teams are eligible for the awards.
