DESTRUCTION OF COW

FARMERS IN COURT. Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, December 18. Twenty pounds was claimed for the loss of a Jersey cow by Arthur Barnett Terry from Arthur Needham, both farmers of Botanical Road, in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Plaintiff stated that on October 5, 1928, defendant trespassed upon bis property and then wantonly and maliciously destroyed a Jersey cow belonging to plaintiff. For loss of the cow £l5 was claimed and for expenses £5. Evidence showed that the cow knocked a boy down and then Needham shot it. For the defence it was submitted the shooting of the cow was necessary to save children in the paddock with the cow from immediate danger. Numerous witnesses were called, and the Magistrate, Mr. J. L. Salmon, S.M., reserved his decision.
