MASTERTON BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL. Dominion Special Service. Masterton, December 18. The Mayor (Mr. T. Jordan) presided at a meeting of the Masterton Borough Council to-night. The librarian reported that 5501 books of fiction and 23 books of travel had been issued from the library during September. while 52 books of fiction and 12 books of juvenile fiction had been added. Subscribers at the end of November totalled 631 and subscriptions collected amounted to £3 10s. The report was received, as were also reports from the borough sexton and the band committee.

The gas department’ reported that a decrease of 2 per cent, of gas manufactured during the month was shown when compared with the figures of the same period last year. Gas sold per meter showed a decrease of 6.2 per cent, for October. Eight cookers had been sold during the month and four new consumers connected. The abattoir committee reported that fees for the month totalled £IS6 ISs. 9d. A' new soring had been opened with a fair supply of water, and it was hoped that there would be enough water obtained to carry over a dry summer. Both reports were received. The borough inspector reported heavv traffic fees amounting to £93 Is. had been taken during the month. Four taxi licenses had been taken out. The engineer reported that building permits issued during the month had an estimated value of £?°9s Gs.. the fees thereon amounting to £l5 ss. For the corresponding period last year permits bad had an estimated value of £5401 is. Gd. Both reports were received. Accounts totalling £4219 ss. were passed for payment.
