“We find that newspaper advertising is one of the best means of letting the public know the value of our own services, and of attracting traffic to any special events.” This statement was made to a reporter by Mr. G. G. Stewart, director of the Railway Department’s publicity branch, who amplified It by adding that at the same time newspaper advertising had to be supplemented by other means of advertising. “The results we are getting are fully justifying our advertising,” added Mr. Stewart. He said that tlie whole of the Department’s advertising was worked on a commercial basis and was being synchronised by a central control department, where expert publicity methods were adopted and were made use of in various districts.
