SENT TO PRISON
HAIRDRESSER STEALS MONEY.
The theft of £lB 7s. sd. in money, the property of William Henry Corneal, was admitted by James Sadler, aged 43, who appeared before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. According to Sub-Inspector Lander. Sadler was employed at odd times as a hairdresser by complainant, who has a business in the city. He had finished up on Saturday last. On Sunday complainant and liis wife went motoring, and when they returned at about 6 p.m. they found defendant in the passageway of their premises. He made some excuse for his presence and was allowed to go. When Mr. and Mrs. Corneal went upstairs they found that a cabinet had been broken and money stolen. A chisel was found in the room. They then followed Sadler, who was found to be slightly under the influence of liquor, and who was taken to the police station. The amount stolen had been recovered. Accused, continued Mr. Lander, had eight previous convictions and was very much addicted to drink. A sentence of three months* imprisonment was imposed, an order being made that the money should be returned to the owner.
