A GREAT ESTATE
ASSESSED FOR TAX AT £36,000,000 (Australian Press Association.) (Rec. November 23, 7.10 p.m.) New York, November 22. The greatest -estate ever appraised in forty-three years’ history of the tax bureau, is announced with the publication of the net estate of the late Harry Payne Whitney,, 178,893,665 dollars (approximately £36,000,000), while the gross estate tax was valued at 194,328,514 dollars. The greatest previous estate appraised amounted to 107,000,000 dollars.
[Mr. Henry Payne Whitney was a banker, and married a daughter of the late Cornelius Vanderbilt. He was born in New York in 1872.]
