WADESTOWN AFFAIRS
BETTER STREET LIGHTING WANTED. The monthly meeting of the Wadestown and Highland Park Progressive Association Was held on Tuesday evening. Mr. Dennehy presided over a very good attendance. Letters were received from the town clerk regarding the condition of Cecil Road and the asphalting of the tram track between Moorhouse Street aud Pitt Street, also from the city engineer stating that instructions had been given for the piping of an open drain in Pitt Street to be carried out, and that the rounding off of a sharp bend in Sefton Street had been authorised. The honorary secretary Was directed to communicate with the City Council requesting the erection of additional street lighting at the Corner of Sefton Street and Ann Street and in Main Road beyond the tram terminus, also to request the removal of the light at the foot of Weld Street steps to the opposite side. Mr. Carwell Cooke reported the results of his interview with the Mayor and the city engineer in connection with the condition of certain thoroughfares in Wndestown and with other matters affecting the welfare of the district. Gratitude was expressed for the very valuable work carried out by Mr. Cooke, nnd he was accorded a vote of thanks. Mr. Stace expressed the hope that Mr. Cooke would continue his efforts, as there wns still a lot to be done. In connection with the rending of the Claremont estate, the honorary secretary of the association stated that the owners had extended nn invitation to the association tn visit the estate nnd go into tlie question, of ronding on, th? snot. It was decided, however, to", thank the owners for their invitation and to inform them that, as the association had no authority in the matter, the suggested innuirV would Serve no good purnose, A draft nnntinl renort was submitted to the pleofihg bv the secretary, find it was decided to print the report and to distribute n co«v of it to each householder in the Wndestown nnd Highland Park districts. ■-
