Levin, October 8.
A serious fire occurred late on Saturday night in premises occupied by Ince and Co., drapers, G. D. Hamilton, accountant, V. Henderson, tailor, and Miss Williams, dressmaker, the three last-named occupying the first floor. The fire had a strong hold when the alarm was given, but it was confined to the block in which is originated. The stocks and building are a total loss. Ince’s stock is insured for £5OOO, and the fittings for £5OO, in the South British office; and Hamilton’s office furniture for £lOO in the British Traders office. , The building belonged to the Stiles and Matheson estate, and was insured for £3OOO in the British Traders’ office. The other tenants were not insured. The cause of the outbreak is not known.
