ART GALLERY & MUSEUM FUND COLLECTORS REPORT GOOD PROGRESS A meeting of collectors in connection with the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum fund, was held in the Mayor’s room last night, when several reports were handed in, showing satisfactory returns. The list up till yesterday afternoon stands as follows :—

A SPLENDID RESPONSE Following is a letter that was sent through the post to 5000 citizens on Saturday last by the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) : — “I am sure you are us gratified as I am at the splendid response to my appeal for donations to the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum. _ The spirit of civic pride and citzenship in Wellington has been splendidly exhibited by promises of £75,000 from just over 100 generous citizens. As you know the Government has promised the(magnificent Mount Cook site and £lOO,OOO on condition that £lOO,OOO is contributed by the citizens of Wellington, £25.000 is still required, and as 1 cannot personally call on all Possible donors I am writing you as a ratepayer and good citizen to make a donation to the fund. Donations may be made by immediate payment, or by annual donations up to five years. A reply form and addressed envelope are enclosed for your convenience. “May I again stress the worthiness of the object, and the added value and improvement the complete conception will be to your city. You will, I feel sure, be happy by your donation to add

something to ‘our Art Gallery’ and ‘our museum,’' which, with the campanile and carillon will make the whole of Mount Cook an inspiring national memorial which will live forever. Every donation sent to me will receive my personal acknowledgment.”
