AWARDS AND AGREEMENTS

, EXTENSION OF TERM A NEW PRINCIPLE A new principle in connection with industrial agreements and awards is ennunclated by an amendment to the I. C. and A. Act passed by the House of Representatives this morning. The Bill provides that industrial agreements under the 1925 Act may be made for five years, instead of three years as at present, and similarly provides for the extension of the term of Awards where this is consented to by the parties concerned. There is provision also for extending the term of existing awards for five years. The final clause enables Industrial agreements or awards to prescribe a basis for calculation of wages in lieu of fixing minimum rates.
