GRAFT CHARGES
4 CASE AGAINST ARNOT QUESTION OF EXEMPTION RAISED (Rec. August 1, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, August 1. Arthur James Arnot, Australian manager for Babcock and Wilcox Ltd., appeared before the Court charged witli being privy to certain matters connected with the alleged giving of a bribe in connection with the Bunnerong power-house contract. Counsel for Arnot asked for a stay of proceedings on the ground that Arnot had been granted a certificate under the Secret Commissions Prohibition Act. testifying that he had told the truth, and that such a certificate exempted the witness from any criminal proceedings which 'may have been initiated against him.
The Magistrate reserved his decision until Tuesday next.
The case against ex-Aiderman Green was also adjourned till Tuesday.
