BOROUGH DRAINAGE

POSITION IN MARTINBOROUGH. Martinborough, July 14. At a meeting this week of the Martinborough Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr. W. B. Martin) said he had been advised by the engineer (Mr. H. F. Toogood) that a drainage scheme for the whole town Would cost about £23,000. This would mean an additional rate of 9d., or practically double the present rate. Much as he wished drainage to be installed, he thought that with the present high rate of money the time was inopportune to put forward any proposal for a loan for that purpose. He would procure a rough estimate as desired for future guidance, as that would cost-the council nothing.
