LORRY COLLIDES WITH POST

DRIVER DIES FROM INJURIES Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, January 9. In a motor accident on the Yald'hurst road, Riccarton, at 10.50 p.m. on Saturday, James Porter, who resided at Queen Street, Spreydon, received injuries from which he died to-day. J. Brown, who lives at 37 Castleton Road, received head injuries. Janies Small, a third occupant of the lorry involved in the collision, escaped unhurt. Porter was driving a motor-lorry along Yaldburst Road towards town. When approaching Church corner he swerved to avoid a car and struck a telegraph post. Porter’s head hit the post, and he was rendered unconscious. Blown received, head injuries from flying glass. Both men were admitted to the Christchurch Hospital shortly after. 11 p.m. Porter had not regained complete consciousness last night, and he died at 2.<10 this morning. Brown’s condition is reported to be greatly improved, and he is now off the serious list. The inquest on Porter was opened today but adjourned for the police to make further inquiries.
