CONSTABLE’S PLUCK
STREET DANGER ENDED Yesterday, but for the presence of inind and pluck of Constable Brosnan, tragedy might have come to Lambton Quay. . ? At 1 p.m., with the lunch hour traffic thick in the streets, the jingle of harness drew the constable’s attention from his point-dutv at the intersection of Willis Street, Lambton Quay, and Willeston Street. ■ From Willeston Street there shot a Hindu hawker’s cart, drawn by an alarmed horse. It was very plain that the horse was about to bolt. In the cart a Hindu clung helplessly to one rein. At once the constable flung himself to the head of the animal and hung to it at much personal risk for long minutes, while the horse kicked wildlv. In its plunges the frightened thing rid itself of a good deal of its harness, but the constable’s grip was too much for it to fight, and with the arrival of two other officers the horse was reharnessed and the danger over.
