DANNEVIRKE NOTES
Dannevirkc, January G. An outbreak of fire about 1.30 on Friday morning in a four-roomed cottage was fortunately discovered in time to prevent the complete demolition, of the building, the prompt arrival of tho brigade enabling the fire to be extinguished after it had destroyed the greater part of the kitchen and a portion of one of the front rooms. The house was one of a block owned by Mr. C. F. Hollis, of Hamilton, and was occupied by Mr. F. Thorstensen, a carpenter. The Rev. J. Thomson Macky, of Knox Presbyterian Church, is spending his annual holiday with his wife and family in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. V. F. B. Rogers are spending a holiday with their family at Waikanae, where Mrs. A. McNicol and her children are also staying. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Barker will leave this week for a holiday visit to Wanganui. The total amount sued for in Dannevirkc Court during the December quarter was .£1786 4s. lid., and the amount actually claimed iu eases before tho Court was .£BlB 6s. 4d., of which £709 9s. Gd. was recovered. The amount collected in criminal and civil fees and tines was 14s.
