MAGISTRATE’S COURT
(QUARTERLY RETURNS.
Palmerston North, January 7
The quarterly returns for the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court, ending December 31, show that seventy-one arrests were made. Summonses issued were 167, and 238 criminal cases were tried. Pensions granted numbered 34, while seven were refused, 'lhe Magistrate presided over 23 criminal and 11 civil cases, while 29 criminal cases were dealt with by justices of the peace. In all, 529 plaints were entered, and 47 distress warrants and 110 judgment summonses were issued; 504 summonses were served by the bailiffs and there were 16 warrants of committal.
