DOUBLE EVENT WON BY W. CAMERON NEW RECORD FOR 100 YARDS In Saturday’s brilliant sunshine several hundred p ople saw the Wellington Swimming Centre conduct its trials for the New Zealand championships team at Uiddii'ord Baths, Lower Hutt. There were some fine performances, the event of the day coming when W. Cameron, the Lyall Bay swimmer, established a new New Zealand fresh water record for the 100 yards, which he covered in 59 2-ssee. Two of the four timekeepers who clocked his effort made the time under this. Decisive Win. Cameron began like a winner and had a lead of a clear yard by the time that he made his first touch. , Swimming strongly, he increased this advantage slightly over the second lap and camo in six or seven feet ahead of D. Murrell (Hutt) and L. G. Leask (Wellington), who finished practically together. G. A. Rix-Trott (Wellington) and A. Watson (Wellington), who also finished together, were a fraction behind LetUik. The 220 yards breast-stroke trial also saw a clean-cut win by IV. Cameron, who led from the start. A. Hepburn and J. Alexander retired. Claridge Beats Rix-Trott. C. Claridge (Maranui) won the LIO yards trial in 6min. Isee. Claridge led by a yard. when three of the 134 laps had been covered, J. Cameron, J. C. Blakeley and L. G. Leask following, with inches between them and G. A. R' x - Trott being fifth. J. Cameron pulled out soon afterwards, and with 200 y-ards gone Claridge was 12 yards in front of Blakeley, with Rix-Trott third. Claridge increased his lead slightly in the next 100 yards and Rix-Trott passed Blakeley halfway through the tenth lap, but, treading wide, could not catch Claridge, who won by 12 yards, with Blakeley a similar distance back third. Leask was a bad fourth, and J. Palmer fifth. Palmer reached the end of the thirteenth lap with D. Murrell, who retired and left Palmer the only other man to finish. _ Nine seconds separated Claridge and Rix-Trott. In the diving championship trials, J. Cameron gained a narrow victory over AV. WANGANUI SELECTIONS FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wanganui, January 8. Wanganui district swimming championship contests were concluded last evening at Gonville Baths. At the conclusion it was decided to send a team consisting of Norman, Dowsett and Misses Natalie Stratton and Zona Haworth to Dnnedin for the New Zealand championships. Dowsett was chosen as manager.
