MASTERTON SEASON OPENED. Masterton, October 10. The official opening ceremony in connection with the Masterton Bowling Club was held on Saturday afternoon, when there was a gathering of over 100 players, including representatives of the various clubs in the district. The president, Mr. G. Haynes, in his opening address, extended a welcome to visitors on behalf of the club. He said the success of the club was largely due to the large hand of voluntary workers it possessed, and Mr. J. Kerr and his assistant was to be congratulated on the state of the greens. He welcomed also the Park Club players who had accepted the offer to use the greens for the season, as their own were at present being returfed and not available Tor play.' The speaker intimated that a rinks tourney among' players selected bv the chib committee would be held on Labour Day and the Saturday preceding. In the absence of the president, Mr. S. Vincent, secretary of the Park Bowling Club, thanked the Masterton Club for its action, and also the Greytown Club, which had offered the use of three rinks on its greens at any time. Mr. G. Sykes, M.P., also spoke, and wished the players a successful season. Mrs. Nielsen then threw up the first !i*cty and play commenced.
