BULL-FIGHTING

NATIONAL SPORT OF SPAIN.

Palmerston North, October 10.

The subject of bull fighting in Spain was dealt with by Dr. -G. Scholefield, Parliamentary Librarian, during the course of an address delivered to members of the Palmerston North Rotary Club to-day. Dr. Scholefield pointed out that there were apt to be misconceptions in regard to bull fighting, and expressed the opinion that it was as much a sport as many of the games played in New Zealand. He did not think that it was any more cruel than several sports which were indulged in by New Zealanders, of which kingfishing cbuld be quoted as an example, and there was certainly a. great deal of danger attached to the sport from the point of view of the bull fighter. In the course of an interesting talk, Dr. Scholefield described in detail Spain’s national sport, and was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for his address.
