GAMING CHARGES
BOOKMAKERS FINED Dominion Special Service. Auckland, October 10. John Francis O’Connor, aged 35, who was arrested at noon on Saturday on a charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, when he pleaded guilty. Chief Detective Cummings said that O'Connor had been engaged in this business for a long time. Handing to the Sfngisfrate the betting sheets which were seized by the detectives. Detective Cummings remarked that O'Connor’s business was a quite satisfactory one. When be was fined .£75, O’Connor thanked the Magistrate and asked for half an hour in which to find the money. This request was allowed. whangaeei men fined. Three men who pleaded guilty to being with another bookmaker were fined £2 each. A ROTORUA RAID. Rotorua. October 10A raid on Saturday resulted in the arrests of Ilori .Mau and Geoffrey Rogers. the former on a charge of keeping a gaming house and the latter on a charge of assisting. They were brought before Justices of the Peace in the afternoon bv Detective Sweeney and remanded until October 17.
