MELROSE FOOTBALL CLUB

WIND-UP TO 1927 SEASON. The Melrose Rugby Football Club held its annual social and dance in St. Thomas's Hall last evening, when over a hundred couples took the floor. Among those present were the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) and Mrs. Troup, Mr. Burns and Mrs. Burns, the president, Mr. C. Campbell, and Mrs. Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. O’Loughlin, Mr. and Mrs. Minifie, Mrs. Upchfrch, Mrs. Greeks, Miss Hall, Mrs. Mulbolland, and Miss Masters. The Flavor (Mr. Troup) congratulated the club on its resurrection. The club had started, he said, in 1887, and for three vears in succession, in 1896, 1897, and’. 1898, it had won the Juno tobacco shield and silver cup. He hoped to see it eclipse the previous performance in the years to come. Mr. Burns, who was a member of the club when it won the junior championship forty years ago, .wished it continued prosperity. Presentations to the best all-rouna men were made as follows: —Ihird grade, gold medai, Mr. J. Capper; intermediate, gold wristlet watch, Mr R. Dawson; fourth grade, gold medal, Mr F. Gooch; and fifth grade, gold medal, Mr. G. Miller. The members of the ladies’ committee, Mesdames O’Laughlin, Minifie, Greeks, and Mulholland, and Misses Masters and Hall, each received a salad bowl. During the evening items were rendered bv Messrs. Roworth (comic songs) and Liardet (cunjuring), while Miss Joan Baine gave an exhibition of toe dances. The Savannah Orchestra rendered the musical fare, and Mr. Minifie acted as M.C.
