CHILD’S FATAL BURNS

VERDICT AT INQUEST. Palmerston North, December 21. An inquest was held this morning concerning the death of Lorna Allen, aged nine years, who died in the I’almerstou North Hospital on Tuesday evening, before the Coroner, Air. A. J. Graham Evidence was given by Edna Allen, aged 13 vears, sister of deceased, to the effect that during her mother’s absence she placed a kettle on the gasring. Deceased took this off later, and in doing so her dress caught fire. A neighbour was attracted by the girl’s cries and extinguished the flames. Dr. R. F. Aitken, acting-inedical superintendent of the hospital, deposed that when the deceased was admitted to the institution she was suffering from extensive burns and severe shock. Death ensued in the evening of the same dav.

The Coroner returned a verdict of accidental death.
