DEAN INGE’S GLOOMY PRONOUNCEMENTS
DENOUNCED BY SIR ALFRED MOND (Rec. October 13, 5.15 p.m.) London, October 12. Sir Alfred Mond, on arriving at Southampton from America, where he interviewed leading financiers, denounced the extraordinarily foolish pronouncements of Dean Inge. American newspapers were full of pictures and headlines giving prominence to the doom of the British Empire, he said. It was intolerable that business men engaged in difficult negotiations should have to meet this defeatist atmosphere, giving prominence to the decadence of Europe and America’s overwhelming superiority.
