COUNCIL’S HONOURS BOARD One of the most impressive “In Me.moriam” rolls-of-honour erected in Wellington to rhe memory of those who served in the Great War has been erected in the entrance foyer of the Town Hall It commemorates in a classically simple yet lasting form all those members of the City Council’s staff who went forth to war, some to return no more? The roll-of-honour is a bronze casting 7ft. by sft., in the form of a frame attached to an oaken base. The frame is of simple fluted design, the only ornamentation being tlie acrateria of aranthus leaf design in the centre of the top of the frame, while the roll-of-honour itself consists of the inscription:— “Roll of Honour of the / Wellington City Corporation. (Coat-of-arms.) “In memory of those who served in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in tlie great European war, 1914-1919.” Then follows the list of names on brass plates (230 in number), according to the department they belonged to, headed by the name of the one councillor who served, Councillor C. A. Hislop. The departments included are those of the town clerk, citv solicitor, city treasurer, city engineer, cityreserves, fire brigade, ' tramways’, and electric lighting. Of the 230 names on the roll, asterisks show that 28 gave their lives for the King and country. Tlie memorial is the work of ’the Wunderlich Company of Sydney. It cost £275.
