GIRE AT INVERCARGILL
FACTORY SAVED BY BRIGADE. Invercargill, Man’ll 26. A fire broke out in William Smith and Co.’s woodwork factory this evening. Flames burst through the roof of the engine-room, which is in an old shed adjoining tlie recently-built showroom, and gave prospects of a big fire, but the brigade were quickly on the scene and promptly subdued the blaze, and confined the damage to the shed. Constable Bently, who saw the outbreak, with commendable promptitude burst open tlie door of the showroom and telephoned to the brigade, which enabled the fire-fighters to get oh the scene quickly. The insurances are £lOO on the engine and boiler house and £5O on the machinery.
