FIRE AT MATATA
BUSINESS BLOCK DESTROYED

A fire at Alatata early this morning destroyed a wooden business block in the main street. The property and stock are valued at about £6500. The affected premises are: Airs Lees, store and dwelling, insurance £laoo in the New Zealand Office; hotel and storeroom, insurance £B5O in the same office; Alavo’s fancy good store, insurance unknown; and Aliss Starger s confectionery shop, insured in the Guardian Office. A bucket brigade did good work anu saved the hotel building, only fifteen feet from the burned storeroom. Ibe hotel block is owned by W. Alont"omerv, and Airs. Lees’s store bv Hurt Bros., of Mntnta.
