SOUTHLAND COAL MINES
SATISFACTORY SETTLEMENT The conference of representatives of coal owners, miners, New Zealand Coal Owners’ Association, and New Zealand Miners’ Federation, held in Southland last week, terminated successfully with mutual satisfaction to both parties. Afr. T. 0. Bishop, secretary of the Coal Owners’ Association, informed a Dominion reporter yesterday that a complete agreement on all points in dispute was reached for the mines in the Southland district, after a conference lasting for two days. A formal sitting of the Conciliation Council will be necessary so that the agreement arrived at should be forwarded to the Court as a joint recommendation of the parties to be made into a new award with a currency of two years from the date of coming into force.
