HUTT RIVER BOARD

SHINGLE DEPARTMENT SHOWING GOOD RETURNS. A meeting of the Hutt River Board was held on Wednesday night. Mr. W. T. Strand pereided, and Messrs. J. Mitchell and W. 11. Smith were also present. Mr. Strand was re-elected chairman of the board. A report was received from the foreman. of the shingle department stating that large quantities of shingle had been supplied to the Wellington Racing Club and the Railway Department. A Jot of shingle had also been supplied. to tho Win Jet Block Co., who are taking two trucks daily. A steady local demand was also being filled. The overseer reported that the ton of the stopbank had been cut from Whites Line to Hutt Bridge, and that a stone groyne bad been started, at Andrew’s. of which about 44 chains. had been completed. The shingle business for December was very satisfactory. Royalties received amounted to £179 Is. 3d., and sales amounted to £475 12s. Id., a profit lieing made on the month s working of .£166 18s. 4d. ,3 The engineer reported that he nan visited and inspected the river.
