HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

The Hutt County Council met yester-. day. when Mr. H. D. Atkinson (chairman) presided. '.there wore also present: Councillors It. Mulhern, A. Mackay, J. Whiteman, E. Gard, and A. Campbell. A letter was received from the Health Department recommending that the Pa hantsmui saleyards be removed to a better position, failing which tho inspector would not recommend re-regis-tration. The Railway Department refused the council’s request to have Gloucester Street level crossing made a public crossing. The same applied to the Otaihanga crossing. The Valuation Department wrote stating that tho Department proposed to exempt the Croydon School from rating for tho reason that the deed of trust showed that the school was entitled to exemption under the Rating Act. Tho request of the Wellington Automobile Club that tho council refuse rights to certain firms to erect signboards. us tho club was prepared to supply universal signboards, was agreed. Building permits to tho value of £7729 were issued between December 8. 1923, and January 14, 1934. Wednesday half-holiday is to bo observed within tho jurisdiction of the Hutt County.
