MOTOR BY-LAWS
COMMITTEE MODIFIES ITS OPINIONS When the confirmation of by-laws dealing with motor traffic came up for discussion at the City Council meeting last night, Councillor Luckie said that deputations had modified the committee’s opinions. Clause 2G provided that no persons should drive cars through certain streets. The Wellington Automobile Club had taken exception to this. The object was to prevent traffic in narrow streets. They also objected to certain streets being closed to delivery motors travelling at more than four miles an hour. Perhaps the Automobile Club should have the opportunity of placing its reasons before, the committee. He moved, the confirmation of the by-laws as printed (with the exception of clauses 7,9, and 26) to come into force on December 15. This was carried. Pillion-riding. ' The By-laws Committee recommended that the confirmation of , the proposed by-law forbidding pillion-riding within the city be disagreed with, and that in lieu thereof a by-law be drafted to make pillion-riding illegal in the busy streets of the city between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday inclusive, the Bylaws Committee to recommend what streets shall be affected. Councillor Luckie said that this was the result .of deputations to the committee.
