SIX DAYS’ CAMPS

ARMY & NAVY TOGETHER AT IRENTHAM The Minister of Defence and his staff are .doing their best to make the sixdays' optional camps efficient training centres, combined with a good outing for the Territorials, also to popularise them with the public. To that end a general invitation has been issued to the public to visit the camps on all occasions, and see for themselves what the training consists of. This week hall of the Wellington Battalion (some 2ao strong) has been in camp at Trenthain, with 200 men from the crews of Ii.M.S. Chatham and Laburnum, who are undergoing their musketry course. Next week the members of the 17th Battery will be in camp there with their 6iu. howitzers, ana service practice will be carried out as well as othei training. The camp is convenient to the M'allaceville railway station, and the trains suit visitors from Wellington, The combination of the Army and Navy in camp has proved very pupular ’ A shooting contest between the two arms of the service resulted in a win for the Army by 122 points to ,64. Three practices were fired—the first ten rounds rapid 200 yar.?s; tne second, snapshooting in the open, ten rounds at 200 yards; and the third, live rounds per firer at falling plates, 200 yards distant.
