LOWER HUTT LOAN

PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS OUTLINED.

The Lower Hutt Borough Council has drawn up an extensive scheme ot improvements and the I ” an ., pr0 I R? s “® were outlined yesterday by the Mayor (Mr W. T. Strand). He said that all possible use would be made of hydroelectrical power, thereby effecting very substantial savings in water supplv, and particularly in sewerage disposal. No attempt would at once be made to proceed with the whole of the proposals in the event of thoir being sanctioned bv the ratepayers, and the council wouliF be extended to the whole district, and the present system would go as far as it would be economical to do so. The sewerage system would be improved se as to be capable of dealing with the greatly increased quantity of sewage due to the rapid development of the district. It was the intention to spend a large sum of money on footpaths, . putting them down in permanent material. This would be done also with the main road. A better drainage scheme would ■lie devised and put into practical effect. Tho council intended to erect a ladies’ rest room, and suitable conveniences for men. The proposals were also intended to provide for a much better water supply, one that would serve the borough for many and also enable Lower Hutt residents to obtain a very substantial reduction in their fire insurance rates.
