RADIUM APPEAL

CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS. At Tuesday’s meeting of the Civic League the secretary reported that letters in connection with the radium appeal had been sent to all associations. Three associations were “on the move” —Hataitai, Melrose, and Roseneath and Oriental Bay. A member suggested that the Press should ouen subscription lists. It was stated, on the authority of a leading medical man, that there were 50 bad cases of cancer in Wellington. There had been 32 cures in Dunedin, as a result of the purchase of radium some years ago. , The chairman suggested that each association elect a committee to make a personal canvass for subscriptions. A “DIGGER’S” GIFT. The secretary of the Radium Appeal Committee has received the following letter from an anonymous donor ( A Digger”) :—“As a well-wisher for the successful establishment of a raoium fund, as one desirous to contribute to it in some small way, and not having any cash available, I would be pleased to donate. « section of land at Lyall Bay for disposal as the committee thinks best. I would suggest that an art union be formed with the section as one of the prizes, as I think that would be the quickest way to getin the cash. If the suggestion of an art union was put into effect, 1 leel sure that many other persons would contribute other prizes. lhe section is free, and the rates arts paid un to March, 1923. The Government valuation is £2lO. If the section is aisnosed of through the art union. 1 would pay the cost of the transfer. Kindly don’t mention my name it anything in the above is made public.
