RAINFALL MUCH BELOW AVERAGE
The total rainfall in Wellington for the month of March was 2 inches, which is 62 per cent, below the mean, and coming after a similar experien€P in February it looks as though we are experiencing an exceptionally dry autumn. Rain fell on eight days—over half the total fall occurring on March 14, when a fall of 1.12 inches was recorded. The average velocity of the wind in March was 270.4 miles, the maximum being recorded on March 14 (day of the big rain storm), when the wind travelled 522 miles. There Was only one day without sunshine, the sunshine record being 45 per cent, of the possible. The maximum temperature recorded was 69.6 on March 3, and the minimum 42.3 on March 6. Two frosts were recorded during the month.
