TRAIN MISHAP
GUARD’S VAN LEAVES THE RAILS NEAR SUMMIT
A mishap occurred yesterday to the Masterton-M ell’.ngton train, which leaves Masterton nt 7.20 each mornin” and is timed to arrive at Lambton Station at 11.44 a.m. When about a mile from the Summit of the Rimutaka Hill on the Featherston side, the two front wheels of the guard s van left the road A very strong wind was blowing at tho time, but it was not known last night whether this was the cause or the accident or not. . , , , , The van had to be jacked back on to the rails, which caused about an hour’s delay, tho train eventually reaching Lambton Station at 1.5 p.m An inquiry into the mishap will be held to-day.
