MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL
THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE. Sydney, November 3. Captain Willinin Wade, representative of the Manchester Ship Canal Company, who has arrived in Sydney, was accorded a civimreeeption. He explained that the canal cost £5,000,000, which was guaranteed by the rates of Manchester. Instead of being a. burden, the company was enabled last year to allocate £33,000 out of profits for rate relief. Fifty-seven per cent, of the meat sold at Manchester came from New Zealand and Australia through London. The demand would greatly increase if the meat were landed direct to Manchester, thus eliminating rail charges and extra handling. —Press Assn.,
