LIQUOR LICENSES FOR RACECOURSES
QUESTION OF RESTRICTING RIGHT OF TENDER When the matter of granting a license for a publican’s-booth at Trentham racecourse was before the Hutt Licensing Committee yesterday, Mr. H- F. O’Leary (who was representing the AVellipgton Racing Club) drew, attention to the fact that in the past when racecourse licenses were granted there was a stipulation that tenders must oome frojff licensees in the Hutt licensing district.- The attendance at race meetings had increased greatly in the last few years, and ho suggested that perhaps the smaller licensees might find difficulty in the matter of equipment and service. The club suggested that tenders be also receivable from the larger licensees in Wellington and district.
Air. AVillis (who appeared for a licensee in the Hutt district): I don’t think that it is quite right te say, that the licensees have insufficient Equipment. The committee decided that it would consider the question raised by Air. O’Leary.
