MR. STATHAM’S PARTY
AN ADDRESS TN DUNEDIN.
By T®le£rß n h. -Press Association. Dunedin, September 16. Mr C. E. Statham, M.P.. leader of the receiitlv-formed National Progressive and Moderate Labour Party, delivered an address here to-night. The Mayor. (Mr. Douglas) presided over a large attendance. Mr. Statham dealt with the -aims, objects, and aspirations of the new party whose motto was, "The common good, of all.” He considered that the I pper House, consisting of about forty mem--I>ers at .41300 per year, was a wanton ex- : travagance. The Upper House should be turned into a revising chamber, consistin" of fifteen men. who should be nominated by the Government and approved by Parliament. He strongly enndemned government 'by regulation The meeting was enthusiastic throughout, and the speaker received a splendid hearing.
