EXTENSIVE THEFTS OF TOBACCO

Frederick Arthur Timmis was charged with stealing property .as follows:—On August 10. six boxes of cigarettes, valued at'filO; on July 20, six boxes of cigarettes, valued at £10: on divers dates between December 15 and Juno 30, 19,000 cigarettes, 1731 b. of tobacco, and 14 boxes of cigars, valued at £253. All the stolen property belonged to the Gisborne/Sheep Farmers’ Frozen Meat Co., by which the accused was employed. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Whare Hickey, nlias Wharematengt, charged with assaulting Charles Remnant, so as to cause actual bodily harm, pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Tho alleged assault took place at Otoko, in the back country.
