SECOND DEMONSTRATION' NIGHT. Notwithstanding the rain which fell last evening, there was a large and -appreciative audience at the Competitions second demonstration night in the town Hall. Tlie reward was a very entertaining programme of songs, dances, recitations, and instrumental numbers, provided by the winners of the, various competitions held during tne past three weeks. Piano solos and duets were contributed by Miss Molly Eivans, Miss Edna and Master Richard Sneddon; songs. Miss Violet Reith, Mrs. Jessie Hewitt, Misses Marjorie Clarke, Alic# Chapman, Madge Shearer, Messrs. Roland Smith, H. Phipps, and W. Bnttenden. Master Phillip Bruce, and acharming duet bv Misses Marjone ana Doris Clarke. Elocutionary- items, grave and otherwise, were given by Misses SteUa Chapman, Kathleen .Chapple, G. M. Whitehouse, Messrs. C. G. Kirk, and JEvans and Miss Mary Cooley. Th« dancing was particularly good. Miss N"aire Phipson was in her element in a. "sinuous Egyptian dance; Miss Evelyn Wright (repeated her graceful skippiugrop<A dance; Master Willie Brown put life and agility into u sailor’s hornpipe, and a "Danse de Bullet” was vivaciously danced bv Misses L. Bailey, Ina.' I n *> glesby, M. King, E. Radford, M. Wilson, Beryl Clarke., Roma Bitossi, B. Carr, C. Vaughan, and T- Searle. A flute ,so]o was contributed by Mr. James Tasker The accompaniments were plaved bv Mr. Harold Whittle, whose woi-k has proved of inestimable value to the society. During the evening the admirers of the many performers signified their sentiments by presenting them with sweets and flowers in profusion. , There will be a special matinee performance this afternoon, commencing at, 2.3!) -nm., when the clever children who have iron prizes will provide a detectable programme. Another excellent programme will ho presented this evening—the last night of the festival.
