MEAT SUPPLY OF BRITAIN
IMPORTATION OF STORE CATTLE. (Pec. September 16, 5.5 p.m.) London, September 15. The Royal Commission set up to inquire into the question of the importa--'tion of store cattle has reported that the admission of Canadian "stores” would be advisable, as it would tend to cheapen in some measure the meat supply of the country, and tend to promote restoration; indeed, to increase the numbers of live stock after the losses sustained during apd since the war. Tlie Commission finds that tho feeling is general among farmers against the admission of store cattle. So far as this has been, created by the apprehension that disease may be introduced the Commission considers it .to be unfounded, but thinks that, the admission might make it difficult for crofters and farmers tn the highlands to carry on operations successfully, and might, to some extent, deprive Irish farmers of tho market they at present enjoy in Great Britain.—Aus.N.Z.
