ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. ‘'Schoolgirl.''—William of Orange, afterwards King William 111 of England, is generally regarded as of Dutch nationality. The Principality of Orange, now incorporated in the Department of Vaucluse, in France, was an independent territory under the Princes of Orange until 1713. Four successive Princes of Orange, however, had also boon Stadtholder (or president) of the Dutch Republic, and William of Orange was born at The Hague in IGSO, nnd himself elected Stadtholdcr in 1672. His mother was Mary, Princess Royal of England, daughter of Charles I, and lie himself married his cousin Mary, daughter of James IL William of Orange was thus Dutch by birth and domicile, an “Orangeman’’ as hereditary Prince of that principality, and ot English Royal blood on his mother s side.
