MORE COMPETITION
A BEQUEST FROM SHEEPFARMEBS. A request for the issueof a license to Armour and Company Limited, of Australasia. ivas made in a petition presented to Parliament yesterday. The petition is si pied by H. D. Acland, of Christchurch, and 107 others. The petition states that the petitioners, who are slieepfarmers, believe it to be in the interest; of the meat producers of the Dominion that no unnecessary restrictions should be placed upon the sale of meat, and that competition among buyers from abroad is to the advantage of the Do. minion. They believe it to be to the advantage of the industry that this company should bo permitted to purchase a fair proportion of produco in open competition. The license, they state, could be revoked if used to tbei detriment of tho producers. They suggest, further, that all meat-buying firms should bo required to send to the Department of Asriculturc monthly returns of stock bought and frozen, with any other information required. Thest! returns could bo used to check the misuse of licenses.
