GOVERNMENT HOUSES
SLOW PROGRESS AT MIRAMAR. There is little work' doing in connection with the erection by the Government of houses at Miramar. Oil the "golf links" contract there are some half* a-dozen houses which only need a roof 011 them and Wtornal finishing to make them fit for habitation. These have been orected by Mr. Cavanogh, with concrete damp-proof bricks. These houses ure those near the road leading to Scots College. At the other end of the land (near the golf house) there aro also two or three houses _ on the verge of completion. In this case the rooms aro very 6inall, and tho fronts diversified. The back view from all these cottages overlooks the golf links, so that there will be a big open air 6paco for practically all time to' come in connection with this workers' settlement. In tho oase of Mr. H. Manning's contract in Central Miramar, no work has been done since tho work was officially stopped nearly a month ago.
