THE LATE GORDON KINVIG
FOOTBALLER'S PEOPLE MAKE A TOUCHING OFFER. At last evening's meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union a letter was received from Mr. R. C. Ivinvig, from which the following is an extract:—
"Amongst the items in the ostato of our. lato son Gordon is a. freehold section of land in a good sunny position in KaTori, part, of the Standen Estate, and, after consultation with my family, we decided that we would donate it to the funds of your union, to bo disposed of, if possible, by art union, and the proceeds to go towards relieving the finances of Athletic Park and helping to keep tho ground for those boys who may return from tho front. In deciding on this course ive feel that in a small way it will help to keep our son's name green in the memory of the old players with whom he was so much associated, and we also feel that by so doing Gordon is still helping lo score another goal for his old union. T have personally interviewed tho Hon. the Minister of Internal Affairs. and he. tells me that a permit cannot be given to bold a raffle, or an art union, but that if your union will apply at onco he will bring the matter before Cabinet, and likely have a clause added to the War Regulations that will help your union and other unions throughout the Dominion to raise funds for their senarale causes, and thereby jet. -Ivor (he difficulties of finance that most of them are in owing to this cruel war."
The offer was accepted 'by the vision, and several fine tributes were paid to flie memory of the late Gordon Kinvic. whom the speakers described as cne of the "whitest sportsmen" who ever played the game.
