RECENT ARRANGEMENTS

' According to tho Defence Department the following arrangements with regard to the issue of travelling warrants and meal tickets or allowances to soldiers discharged from Imperial units iu England und returned to their homes in the Dc-min-ion by the Imperial authorities have been completed:—

1. In all cases passages will be booked by tho Imperial authorities to tho port of disembarkation only, and arrangements for inland transport will be inado bv the local Defence Office.

2. The procedure will be that a notification will be sent from the AVar Office to the local authorities authorising tho provision of onward conveyance to the men's destination. The notification in the ceso of men returning by transport will be handed by tho master of the transport to the local authorities. In tho two of men returning by packet, tho authority will be given to the men by the master of tho packet before disembarka-.ion.

Men whose return involves a railway journey necessitating at lrasi one dinner meal will be. granted ineal thkets for tho train journey, or, if theso arc not procurable, an allowance in lieu thereof: ss. a night for each night normally occupied by the journev.

i. If it is necessary for men to remain at the port pending the provision of on> ward conveyance, an allowance of ss. a night for each night so detained (but not exceeding a total of three nights) may also be issued to them, unless lccal arrangements for food and accommodation —e.g., rest camps—aro made. , 5. Each mau will produce his discharge certificate in proof of his identity, and all possible precautions should bo taken to guard against impersonation.

G. Any charge necessarily 'ncurrecl hereby will he recovered from the Imperial funds, and vouchers must be.supported by the authority in original. These claims should be paid on siparato abstracts to facilitate recovery, ami receipts obtained in duplicate. Vouchors and travelling warrants should be r. arkcd "Charge Imperial Government.''
