SUNDAY-TRADING AND WEIGHTS . ' AifD MEASURES. Mr. L. G. 'Reidj S.M., presided in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The police brought a number of Sun-day-trading cases. . William Collins was .fined £1, and costs 75., 'for transacting Sunday business. ■ Neil Austin was similarly penalised for keeping open his shop on a'Sunday. ' Hawking without a license cost Walter Miles a fine of £1. For motoring in Adelaide Road at a dangerous pace and passing a tramcar when people were alighting, Walter Naismith, who pleaded guilty, was convicted and. discharged. Henry Berthold, who rode a bicycle without a light, was ordered to pay costs 7s. ' • John William 'Peterson, who drove, a horse and dray at more than a walking pace round the corner of' WaringTaylor Street and Customhouse Quay, was fined us., with 13s. 6d. costs. Furious motor-cycling resulted in Frederick John Shand being fined £1, with 7s. costs. For driving on the wrong side, of the Courtenay Place, shrubbery, Percy Withers, Lewis John Pankhurst, Arthur Rose, Walter M. Shand, and Thomas Wills were, each convicted and ordered to pay 7s. costs, and Claude Wood was convicted and discharged. As those responsible for horses which .were talcen in charge, John A. Holland, Walter Hadley, and Ernest Hadley were each convicted and' ordered to pay costs 7s. . . \ Robert Cashman, Inspector of Weights and Measures, prosecuted a number of city firms. The Colonial Motor Company, Denhard Automatic Bakery Conipany, Ltd., Wm. John Edwards,'Kellow Automatic Bakeries, Ltd., Kirkcaldie and Stains, Osboyie' Manufacturing Po., and Mrs. Emma Vinsen were' convicted and ordered to pay 7s. costs for having weigh-ing-machines which were not stamped as required by tho Weights and Measures Act. The Denliard Company was ordered to pay costs 7s. for having a weight that was "false and unjust"; and the Osborne Manufacturing Company was ordered to pay 7s. costs for having \a weighing-machine that was "false and unjust." For insobriety, Mary Barclay was fined £1, Richard A. Thomas convicted and remanded' for medical treatment, and Daniel lieane fined £1.
